Step 1: Visit NSSF Website

Open your web browser on phone or computer. Type www.nssf.or.ke in the address bar. Press Enter and wait for page to load. You’ll see the NSSF homepage with blue colors. Look for navigation menu at the top.

Example: Make sure the website address shows exactly “nssf.or.ke”—don’t use other websites claiming to be NSSF.

Step 2: Find Member Portal

Look at the top menu of the homepage. Find a link that says “Member Portal” or “Member Services”. Click on it once. If you don’t see it, scroll down the homepage. There should be a section for “Online Services” with portal link.

Example: The link might be labeled “Access Your Account” or “View Statement”.

Step 3: Click Register (First Time Users)

The login page will open. You’ll see boxes for username and password. If this is your first time, don’t try to log in yet. Look for a button or link saying “Register” or “New User”. Click on it to start registration.

Example: If you already registered before, skip to Step 9 and just log in with your existing details.

Step 4: Enter Your NSSF Number

On the registration form, find the box labeled “NSSF Number”. Type your membership number carefully. Use only the numbers and letters shown on your NSSF card. No spaces or dashes unless shown on your card. Double-check it’s correct.

Example: If your card shows 1234567, type 1234567.

Step 5: Enter Your ID Number

Find the box for “ID Number” or “National ID”. Type your national ID number. Use numbers only, no spaces. Make sure it matches the ID you registered with NSSF. This is important for verification.

Example: If your ID is 12345678, enter 12345678.

Step 6: Provide Contact Details

Enter your active phone number in the phone box. Format: 0712345678 or +254712345678. Type your email address carefully in the email box. This email will receive important notifications. Check for typos before continuing.

Example:

Step 7: Create Username and Password

Think of a username you’ll remember easily. Type it in the “Username” box. Usually 6-15 characters. Create a strong password with at least 8 characters. Mix capital letters, small letters, numbers, and symbols. Type the same password again in “Confirm Password”.

Example:

  • Username: johnk2026
  • Password: Nssf@2026

Step 8: Submit Registration

Scroll down to the bottom of the form. Check that all details are correct. Tick the box to agree to terms and conditions. Complete any security check shown (CAPTCHA). Click “Submit” or “Register” button. Wait for the system to process—don’t click again.

Example: You might see a message saying “Registration successful” or receive an SMS with confirmation code.

Step 9: Verify Your Registration

Check your phone for SMS from NSSF. The message contains a verification code. Go back to the website. Enter the code in the verification box shown. Click “Verify” or “Confirm”. Your account is now active.

Example: SMS might say: “Your NSSF verification code is 789456”. Enter 789456 on the website.

Step 10: Log In to Portal

After verification, go to the login page. Enter your username in the username box. Enter your password in the password box. Click “Login” or “Sign In” button. Wait for your account to load.

Financial dashboard interface

Step 11: View Your Dashboard

You’re now inside your NSSF member portal. The dashboard shows an overview of your account. You’ll see your name and membership details. Look for menu items on the screen. Common options include “Statement”, “Balance”, “Contributions”.

Step 12: Click View Statement

Find and click on “View Statement” or “Account Statement”. A new page will open showing your contribution history. You’ll see a table with all your contributions. The page might take a few seconds to load all data.

Example: The menu might also say “Contribution History” or “Account Details”.

Step 13: Read Your Statement

The statement shows important columns of information. Contribution Date: when money was paid. Amount: how much was contributed. Employer Name: who paid (if employed). Interest Earned: extra money from savings. Running Balance: your total savings so far.

Example: Sample entry:

  • Date: Dec 2025
  • Amount: KES 1,200
  • Balance: KES 50,000

Step 14: Check Your Total Balance

Look at the top of the statement page. You’ll see your current total balance. This is all your contributions plus interest earned. The balance shows your retirement savings to date. Higher balance means more money when you retire.

Example: Total Balance: KES 85,000 means you have saved KES 85,000 in your NSSF account.

Step 15: Select Statement Period

Look for date filters or dropdown menus. You can choose which period to view. Options might include “Last 6 months”, “Last year”, or “All time”. Select the period you need. Click “Generate” or “View” to see that period’s statement.

Example: To see everything, select “From: January 2015” “To: December 2025” or click “Full Statement”.

Step 16: Download Statement

Find the “Download” or “Print” button on the page. Click it once. Choose the format—usually PDF. The file will download to your device. Wait for download to complete. Find the file in your downloads folder.

Example: The file might be named “NSSF_Statement_123456.pdf” with your number.

Step 17: Save or Print Statement

Open the downloaded PDF file. Verify all information is correct. Save it to a secure folder on your device. You can print it if you have a printer. Keep copies for your records. Use it when needed for loans, visa applications, or personal tracking.

Understanding Your Statement Components

Employee Contribution: Money deducted from your salary (usually 6% of salary).

Employer Contribution: Money your employer adds (another 6% of your salary).

Voluntary Contribution: Extra money you chose to add yourself.

Interest: Earnings on your savings—NSSF invests your money and shares profits.

Total Balance: Everything combined—all contributions plus accumulated interest.

Common Problems and Solutions
